INTESOL is an ODLQC (Open and Distance Learning Quality Council) Accredited Course Provider.

This means that INTESOL has achieved the standards set by the Council, who are satisfied that the service you, the learner, receive from INTESOL will be of good quality.

As an ODLQC accredited Course Provider we guarantee:

• Quality training and course materials that have been rigorously assessed by an external authortiy.
• High levels of support and guidance from both INTESOL and ODLQC.
• Courses that are constantly monitored and moderated.
• Your interests are consistently protected.

Accreditation is awarded only after a rigorous assessment, by independent experts, of the educational service offered by a provider, to ensure that it meets the Standards set by the Council. Accredited colleges are re-assessed annually.

Established in 1969 by a joint government/private sector initiative, ODLQC is the national body, which assesses quality in open and distance learning in the UK. Its role is to recognise quality of service through its accreditation scheme, and to protect the interests of the learner.

Background to Ascentis (formerly OCNW)

Ascentis was established in 1975 as a partnership scheme between universities and colleges of further education. It was the very first 'Open College' and its initial aim was to provide innovative Access to Higher Education Qualifications for adult learners. Over the past thirty years the membership has increased significantly and the portfolio of qualifications has expanded to include a wide range of curriculum areas.

Throughout this period, Ascentis has maintained its independence in order to ensure that it can continue to respond promptly to the requirements of its customers and provide a consistently high standard of service.

Ascentis is distinctive in that it is both:

A) a National Awarding Body, approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA)

and

B) an Authorised Validating Agency for 'Access to Higher Education' Programmes, licensed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA)

Ascentis is an unincorporated association of its members institutions and is governed by a Board, supported by three committees:

• Quality Standards
• Finance and General Purposes
• Access Co-ordinators
  

Ascentis is managed by a Chief Executive, a Deputy Chief Executive and managers responsible for - Qualification Development and Marketing, Operations, Finance and Systems and Secretariat Services.

Lancaster University functions as the employer of the Ascentis staff and provides a range of services, including personnel, financial accounting and information and communications technology.

Membership at HE level consists of :- Lancaster University, the University of Liverpool, the University of Central Lancashire, Edge Hill University, St Martin's College and Northumbria University. They supply both educational expertise and academic validation.
