The City - Guanajuato, Mexico

INTESOL Mexico is located in one of the most picturesque cities in Mexico. The climate is spring-like year round with warm days and cool nights. There are showers during the summer months, however. Guanajuato is a small, safe, and friendly city located just a few hours north of Mexico City. The school
is situated on the most beautiful avenue in Guanajuato, lined with historic buildings, trees, parks and next to a reservoir. It is located in a peaceful and elegant neighborhood, "La Presa”, just 10 minutes from downtown.

Guanajuato is one of Mexico´s silver cities and 1988 UNESCO declared the city and surrounding mines a "World Heritage Site". Clean and beautifully preserved, the city is full of architectural treasures such as fine town houses, beautiful haciendas and romantic plazas. It is full of character with its many narrow winding alleyways, flowered balconies and system of underground tunnels. There is always something going on here: street parades, music in the plazas, religious fiestas, and cultural events throughout the year. There are many different museums and several theaters. The city is located in a valley and is surrounded by stunning mountains, which are accessible all year round.

The School

INTESOL Mexico is onsite at the Academia Falcon, and has everything you need for a successful learning abroad program. Founded in 1988 by Jorge Barroso, previously a university language teacher, it is the oldest and finest language school in Guanajuato and has established an international reputation. With almost 20 years of experience in teaching, it has developed a proven successful methods. The school has trained over 145 Spanish teachers and is now implementing this knowledge to offer the possibility to train to become an effective English teacher.

The school receives students from local Mexicans to people from all over the world. As a consequence, the school offers visitors exposure to a diverse range of cultures and attitudes. At Academia Falcon and you will enjoy experiencing a mosaic of humanity. In order to ensure that students become aquatinted with the local people we hold a weekly conversation exchange (intercambio). This bi-lingual workshop gives foreign and Mexican students a chance to meet and practice their languages in a fun and relaxed environment. The school has a dedicated and supportive administrative staff that is always willing and able to help out any of our visitors and this team is eager to welcome you to our friendly family-style atmosphere.

The school is a beautiful learning environment and the facility includes gardens, a mini golf course, a children’s play area, an open-air cafeteria, an Internet cafe with Wi-Fi, a library and tranquil spots to study or relax between classes.

Employment Opportunities

The school has an English Department, which teaches ESL/EFL to local Mexican students and we would encourage our TESOL graduates to consider Academia Falcon as their potential, first real-life ESL/EFL teaching experience! Students can then move on to teach at one of the many language schools across Mexico. There many opportunities for teaching English in Mexico. With its proximity to the U.S it is becoming more and more essential for citizens to speak English, most university students across the country are required to take English classes in order to graduate. The school can provide help and advice with finding a teaching position.

Mexico Accommodation

There are many accommodation options available depending on students´ needs. It is possible for the school to organise accommodation in the form of a home stay with a Mexican host family. Based on students´criteria, the school will match you with the most suitable family. The school sets high standards for participating families. This option will offer you a richer cultural experience, more opportunities to practice your Spanish, the family will provide you with 3 meals a day and often laundry services. If you enjoy being more independent there is also the possibility of staying at the school itself. The new classroom and dormitory building has stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. Double rooms, rooms with a private bathroom and laundry facilities are available. The school also has many apartments for short- and long-term rental located close by. It is also possible to arrange pick up from Leon airport to deliver you to your chosen accommodation.
