The City - New York, USA

The official name of this impressive city is The City of New York. It is the largest city in the United States.

The Dutch founded the city as a commercial trading post in 1625. From 1785 until 1790 it served as the capital of the US. Today, New York is one of the world's major centres of commerce and finance. It also exerts global influence in media, education, entertainment, arts, fashion and advertising. New York City is also a major centre for international affairs, hosting the headquarters of the United Nations. Many of the city's neighborhoods and landmarks are known around the world. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Wall Street, in Lower Manhattan, has been a dominant global financial centre and is home to the New York Stock Exchange.

The city has or had several of the tallest buildings in the world, including the Empire State Building and the twin towers of the World Trade Center. In 2005, nearly 170 languages were spoken in the city and 36% of its population was born outside the United States. With its 24 hour subway and constant bustling of traffic and people, New York is sometimes called "The City That Never Sleeps".

The School

Our training centre is conveniently located in West New York and easily accessible by public transport, just minutes away from what New York City is so famous for - the Empire State Building, Central Park, Rockefeller Centre, etc. The institute offers spacious, air-conditioned classrooms, a comfortable lounge, and a modern office area with telephone, fax, and copy machine for the trainees. A computer room provides for Internet access and the opportunity to print. The school is in an immigrant neighborhood in which the majority speaks Spanish. The building is in the vicinity of shopping and entertaining. Restaurants abound.

Hotel rooms are available in all price categories starting from $135 per night.

RESIDENCE

Budget-friendly, dorm-like accommodation, residences offer single rooms and very often one meal per day, served at set times. Usually run by the church, they offer inexpensive accommodation to everybody.
Prices start from $800 per month based on availability (first come, first served)

FURNISHED ROOM

Furnished rooms can be found at www.craigslist.org. It is customary to pay a one-month security which is returned to you upon vacating the room.

INTESOL New York can help trainees to secure an appropriate place to stay for the duration of the course. We will check what our trainee's needs and preferences are, and do our best to find a place that meets their expectations. Trainees will be charged $100 for this service.
