We provide you with accommodation during your TESOL/TEFL course if you wish, and we also advise you on a wide range of topics, including: what to bring for your trip; what airlines to fly; what type of accommodation best suits you; how much money you need to bring; visa requirements for travelling to Peru (if any - depending on your nationality); what type of health insurance you need (if any); and all of the ins and outs of day-to-day life in Peru. From the moment you arrive in the historic city of Cusco, we put all of our efforts into making your stay enjoyable. We meet you at the airport and take you to your family-stay, apartment, hostel, or hotel. We provide you with all the information you need regarding cash machines, shopping, trekking, sightseeing, and nightlife. We also provide a full city tour, including the most famous archaeological ruins surrounding Cusco – centre of the Inca Empire. In addition, we have a big dinner out with all of our current English teachers and TESOL/TEFL trainees, so that the whole team can get to know each other; and at the end of the course we celebrate your achievement with a typical lunch of Peruvian cebiche. During the course, you will receive continuous job-finding guidance so that you have all the information you need to teach English internationally. We set you up for success, and then with a little leg work from your side, you are assured of finding a job at the end of the program. Career assistance does not end there, however, as we offer unlimited lifetime job guidance to all of our successful trainees. The CityLocated in the south eastern Andes Mountains, Cusco sits at an altitude of 3,400 meters above sea level (11,000 ft.). Cusco is the historic capital of the Inca Empire and is the gateway to the sanctuary-city of Machupicchu. Indeed, Cusco is one of the most spectacular highlights of South America. Stately and historic, with stone streets and buildings that are built on Incan foundations laid down more than five centuries ago, Cusco is a mecca for South American adventurers and tourists. Cusco is one of those rare places able to preserve its unique character despite its prominence in international tourism. Cusco is a fascinating blend of pre-Columbian and colonial history and contemporary culture. The Incas made "Q'osqo" (meaning "navel of the world" in Quechua) the religious, political, military, and cultural centre of their empire. Today, Cusco thrives as one of the most vibrant cities in South America. The SchoolINTESOL Peru has a great location in the heart of Cusco – the capital city of the Inca Empire and the Tawantinsuyo culture. Just 3 blocks from Cusco’s historical Plaza de Armas, INTESOL PERU is located in a modern office building. The executive language centre has been designed with the needs of our clients, trainees, and staff in mind. There are 10 classrooms for group and private classes, a library, and modern laptop computers running Windows XP, all with high-speed Internet connections. Every classroom is equipped with comfortable chairs, a whiteboard, and a cassette and CD player. The main teaching room has a surround sound system, DVD player, cassette player, and TV with international cable. Every morning the coffee and tea are piping hot and free at our onsite snack bar. Peru AccommodationThere are several housing options to choose from. Note that housing costs during the TESOl/TEFL program are separate from tuition. INTESOL PERU is happy to help you arrange a family-stay, hostel, hotel, or private or shared apartment during your stay in Cusco. INTESOL PERU’S “Family House”We are happy to offer our TESOL/TEFL trainees a room in our own “Family House.” These INTESOL-owned accommodations are similar to a family-stay, but with more independence and privacy. All rooms are private and trainees can choose to have a shared or private bath. The “madre de la casa” (house mother) cooks both breakfast and dinner Monday through Saturday, and also does all the cleaning. Laundry services are also available. $475 per month Family-StayFamily-stays are all with pre-approved families and include two meals per day. All of our host families are middle-class and live in homes and areas that are attractive. All family-stays include a private room and most have private bathrooms as well. Many of the families have been hosting international travellers and students for years. Participants are given a key to the house and are free to come and go as they please, but they must respect the routine of the family they are staying with. Family-stays are typically within a 10 minute taxi ride from the centre of Cusco. Taxis are regulated, and the one-way fare to anywhere in Cusco is only S/.2 ($0.50). $525 per month HostelThere are also many inexpensive hostels throughout Cusco and you may elect this option if you want to save money while still remaining 100% independent. INTESOL PERU works with three different hostels, all of them clean and safe with excellent service and amenities including TV rooms, 24-hour kitchens, and more. All hostel accommodations include private rooms with private bath. $840 per month Private ApartmentOur private apartments are all modern, very comfortable, and fully furnished. Apartments come with equipped kitchens including plates and utensils required to live comfortably and cook for yourself. Most apartments are within walking distance (5-15 minutes) or within a 5-minute taxi ride from the Plaza de Armas and the INTESOL PERU office. $450 per month Shared ApartmentLike our private apartments, our shared apartments are all modern, comfortable, and fully furnished. Shared apartments all have 2 private bedrooms, though the bath is usually shared. The apartments are fully furnished with equipped kitchens including plates and utensils. Most apartments are within walking distance (5-15 minutes) or within a 5-minute taxi ride from the Plaza de Armas and the INTESOL PERU office. If you do not have a roommate, we can arrange one for you. $275 per month Hotel (3-Star)Cusco has a great deal to offer in terms of hotels, ranging from 1-star to 5-star accommodations. INTESOL PERU works with two 3-star hotels, both of which are modern and comfortable with all the necessary amenities plus breakfast included. All hotel rooms are private with a private bath. If you desire more luxurious accommodations please request the hotel option when you register. $1,680 per month TEFL Opportunities in PeruCusco, and Peru in general, has a growing economy, and there is a very strong demand for the English language. Especially in Cusco, which is the international centre of tourism for all of South America, the ability to speak English is a necessity – more than 70% of the city’s population is employed in the tourism sector. In fact, the number of Peruvians who want to learn English is growing at an exponential rate. There are more than 10 official language schools in Cusco itself, and then countless public and private schools, as well as NGOs that offer English classes. There are also excellent teaching opportunities in other cities such as Arequipa and Trujillo. There are also very interesting teaching opportunities in remote mountain communities around Cusco. The capital of Lima has hundreds of English institutes and employment is easy to find. In short, we are professionals that can make sure you find a job! CV/Resume PreparationWe ask you to bring your CV/resume to the program with you. Beginning in the first week of the course, we will dissect and re-write your CV to make sure it is effectively targeted and focused on teaching English internationally. During the course we will advise you on how to update your CV/resume and make the necessary amendments to ensure your background is appealing to prospective employers. Often this can make a real difference, since the appropriate layout and structure of a CV/resume changes from country to country. By the end of the course you will have a first rate resume to present to potential employers. Job GuaranteeINTESOL PERU does NOT guarantee you a job after completion of the course. We think this is unrealistic – after all, there really is no such thing as guaranteed work. However, you DO receive lifetime career assistance and we do our absolute best to help you in your endeavours. Experience shows that those trainees who put the effort into preparing a strong CV/resume and who are not afraid of really looking for work, usually find teaching positions within 0 to 30 days following the TESOL/TEFL course. In-House Job OpportunitiesAs well, INTESOL PERU makes 2-4 job offers to our TESOL/TEFL trainees every month to join INTESOL Peru as an English teacher. There is very strong demand for certified English teachers worldwide and in all of South America and in areas like Eastern Europe and Asia the demand far exceeds supply. Therefore, teaching jobs in these geographical areas is virtually guaranteed. If you are really determined and want to teach English internationally, you WILL find a good job.
