Course Aims

This course is aimed at those EFL/ESOL teachers who seek professional development in the field of TEFL / TESOL and are interested in learning about teaching young learners of English.

Through a number of readings and practical tasks you will gain a deep insight into how general teaching principles can be applied in the Young Learners EFL/ESOL classroom.

The course is divided into three main parts:

  1. What it means to be a young language learner
  2. Principles and theories for the young learner classroom
  3. Teaching teenagers

We thus provide a thorough coverage of the main principles underlying Teaching English in the Young Learners classroom.

Eligibility

This course is available to those who have already studied the Cert TESOL with INTESOL, or those who hold a 100 hour + TEFL/TESOL certificate issued from an accredited organisation. To check if you qualify, please email .

Course Structure

The Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners was developed as an advanced TEFL qualification, to be studied in addition to the Cert TESOL. The courses consists of 4 units and 10 modules and at the end of each module there will be a task for you to complete and return to your personal tutor. With each returned module you will receive an assessment sheet, which allows your trainer to comment on your progress, give advice and guidance for future modules.

Courses are available on CDROM with a course textbook.

Course Duration

This course contains approximately 70 hours of work, which can be completed in your own time. You may take as long as you need to complete the course, although most trainees finish within 1 - 2 months.

There are no set start dates. You decide when you start. The full course is sent out on acceptance of your application.
